It is a traveling international exhibition housed in a gleaming futuristic pavilion designed by Pritzker Prize-winning, London-based architect Zaha Hadid. Commissioned by CHANEL, Mobile Art presents changing installations of works by foremost contemporary artists from Europe, the United States, Asia, Russia and Latin America, each of whom has made a unique piece for the project exploring the visual, conceptual and cultural possibilities in the convergence of fashion and art.
The traveling pavilion will place a futuristic work of architecture and amazing works of contemporary art together in Central Park – I haven’t seen any aerial shots of it yet but that would look so surreal.
Of course it’s not coming to Australia, but this amazing traveling Mobile Art Container launched its two-year worldwide tour in Hong Kong in February 2008, before traveling to Tokyo, where it has been on view at the National Yoyogi Stadium Olympic Plaza. Following its presentation in New York City, Mobile Art will travel to London and Moscow, concluding its tour in Paris in 2010.
For the opening night Jezebel condemned the celebs who attended for shocking dress sense …
“You would think that a party to celebrate the opening of a large box in New York City’s Central Park would inspire people to look their best. And yet, the opening night party for the Mobile Art: Chanel Contemporary Art Container by Zaha Hadid, a long-awaited installation, inspired some of the most god-awful duds I’ve ever seen. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Bosworth, Katie Lee Joel, Kim Raver, and, of course, the Kaiser himself, presided over one of the longest “Bad” lists I’ve ever put together — and it could have been even longer! The jumpsuits, the sneakers, the horror, the horror.”
Although I quite like Kate Bosworth’s dress but Aggy is looking a bit dishevelled. I noticed that most of the guests were wearing some form of grey, silver or white, so may be it was a theme on the invite?
