Vogue Italia has supplemented their July 2009 issue with a mini-magazine that features black dolls celebrating Barbie’s 50th anniversary.
It appears to be a follow-on from their iconic all-black July 2008 issue which featured the best of fashion\’s black models including Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn, Iman and Sessilee Lopez.
Franca Sozzani says, “Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to black Barbie.”
The first black doll by Barbie, Francie, was released in 1967 as a friend to Barbie followed in 1980 by a “black Barbie” doll. A new line will also be released this Autumn called the So In Style dolls.
She’s such a stylish icon our Barb’s isn’t she? And not to mention popular and having the longest birthday celebration, jealous much?
