Q&A with jewellery designer Anna Hookway
Anna Hookway, 41, is behind the hip, new jewellery label, Anna Designs. And, it seems, creativity is in her genes – her family founded the fashion label, Oroton. Every piece in Anna\’s jewellery range is handmade in her Sydney studio and she has also recently opened a shop in NSW\’s Mosman.
Anna\’s travel hotspots: I travel to places that I think will give me inspiration (for my work) – places that have a lot of culture and life.
Materials used in her range: I use sterling silver, semi-precious stones, enamel, wood, and any other tactile materials!
Why jewellery: Making jewellery just worked for me, as it is very ‘hands on\’ and can be a spontaneous event, which works with having a family.
Family background: Having grown up with fashion, I think it has had a big influence on me. I have always been interested in what\’s happening in the fashion world. It is not an easy industry to be in, unless you are passionate about it.
Why it\’s a woman\’s sport: I think more young women are getting involved in jewellery design, because it is so accessible now. With the Internet and online shopping, you have the world at your doorstep! It is a great way to explore your creativity, without much outlay.
