Last week I was a brave soul who went and had all her hair cut off for a very worthy cause. To be honest, I didn’t really think about what I had committed myself to which is lucky ’cause I would never have done it otherwise as my hair became very short in one big snip of the scissors!
Why you ask! Well the lovely Troy Thompson; TV personality from 10 Years Younger in Ten Days and consummate hairdresser to the stars, opened his salon doors, to us Sydney Gals to get a free haircut (and hair makeover) by donating our hair to wig manufacturers through an alignment with the Look Good Feel Better Community Initiative.
Recently the TV star was faced with the news that his best friend was battling with lung and bone cancer. In a show of support for his friend Troy knew he had to do something and as such devised The Great Cut Off in alignment with the Look Good Feel Better Initiative.
Look Good…Feel Better is a free national community service program dedicated to teaching women cancer patients – through hands on experience – techniques to help restore their appearance and self image during chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The program was founded and developed by the Australian cosmetic industry in May 1990 (through its former industry association, the CTFAA), and is administered through the registered charitable organisation, the Cancer Patients Foundation Ltd.
So yes I am proud to have participated in the Great Cut Off and hope that my hair will contribute in a small way to help bring a smile to someone’s face by allowing her to feel sexy again with a wig made out of real hair.
Listen to Virgina’s story below who donated her beautiful long hair to honour the memory of her mother who passed away recently from breast cancer.
