Galaxy Dress

Galaxy Disco Dress

by Sassi Sam on 16 November , 2009

Last time I posted something LED related, ie. my Bright Eyes post, people from around the globe came to have a gander.  Well this LED creation is totally awesome and definitely ready for busting some moves at the disco!

Created by Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz the dress is made out of 24,000 full color LED lights!  Nick-named the “Galaxy Dress”, the tiny iPod batteries that power the LED’s only last between 30mins to 1 hour.  But when the lights dim, the dress will still sparkle as it is decorated with 4000 Swarovski crystals.

“We used the smallest full-color LEDs, flat like paper, and measuring only 2 by 2 mm,” say designers Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz in an e-mail. “The circuits are extra-thin, flexible and hand-embroidered on a layer of silk in a way that gives it stretch so the LED fabric can move like normal fabric with lightness and fluidity.” The duo run an interactive clothing company called CuteCircuit.

Watch the video clip below, very clever hey?  Is this the fashion of the future?

The dress is on display at Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry and it’s definitely one that we can see The GaGa turning up in somewhere!

What do you think?  What a great New Year’s Eve dress!
