I know this is completely random and not really fashion related but I thought it was so amazing and of course so topical, I just had to post about it … Project Lilypad – A Floating Ecopolis for Ecological Refugees
The scientific community predicts that a temperature elevation of 1 degree C will lead to a water rise of 1 meter, resulting in massive land loss and the displacement of millions of people world wide. And an incredibly creative Belgian architect, Vincent Callebaut, has come up with this mini-water acropolis solution.
LILYPAD will not only provide housing for those displaced by the transforming land/water relationships but it will also produce sustainable energy for developed regions. It can reach a positive energetic balance with zero carbon emission by the integration of all the renewable energies (solar, thermal and photovoltaic energies, wind energy, hydraulic, tidal power station, osmotic energies, phytopurification, biomass), producing more energy than it consumes.
And if you’re wondering about the big seas, well LILYPAD will be able to adapt to the changing ocean flows resulting from the hydro climatic factors (whatever that means, but it appears they have it covered!).
And this is why I love the internet, finding amazing things like this project. I so love visionary’s, I think it would be absolutely incredible to see these floating across our oceans. No doubt the inhabitants will be knicknamed the LILYPAD people!
