I recently came across this absolutely gorgeous Australian swimwear brand, Kooey – Australian for hello summer! The photography is so uniquely Australian and so eye catching I couldn’t wait to find out more about them. Kooey is an Australian owned and operated swimwear label, with all swimwear and beachwear designed and made in Australia.
Australia has long been known for its endless summers and beautiful beaches and our Indigenous beauty. Kooey features unique Indigenous Australian dot-art prints and the colours of Australian flora throughout their collections.
And what I love even more about the brand is the brand’s dedication to staying true to their brand story and keeping to the Indigenous theme by having the ‘face of Kooey‘ as a beautiful Indigenous Australian model from Perth, Emily. Emily was chosen to bring the Kooey brand to life.
“When we first saw Emily, we were really interested in the fact that she was Indigenous – her eyes, her body and skin colour. we knew our prints would look fabulous on her” said the designer.
The Kooey label started off in a backyard in Broome where swimsuits were made for friends, family and particularly the tourists asked where the swimsuit was made – that started a process where the founder was making swimsuits at night and taking them to the Broome markets where they would sell out within minutes – so much so that she stopped going to the markets and just put a picture up on ebay and sold them that way. And as they say the rest is history, having just recently launched into the US market!
Isn’t the photography unbelievable?
