Did you know that one in seven people around the world do not have access to clean water which they need to live. If the current trend continues, in less than 20 years, two-thirds of the world\’s people will not have access to enough water (Water Treaty).
As part Aveda\’s 2010 Earth Month campaign, Aveda is running their second global campaign WALK FOR WATER. This Sunday 18th April, they will host a series of 6k walks in participating cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth) to raise awareness, funds, and excitement of the need to protect clean water.
The six kilometers represents the average distance that women in developing countries walk daily to collect water (UNICEF). The walks in Australia will raise money for Global Greengrants Funds, which supports grassroots efforts to preserve clean water and protect the environment in more than 100 countries worldwide.
Throughout the month of April, Aveda\’s 2010 Earth Month campaign will unite its network professionals and guests to raise US$3.5 million to protect clean water. Aveda Earth Month 2010 calls for strategic local and global action to protect local waterways, empower communities, and help make clean water accessible to everyoneâ€”everywhere. Having celebrated Earth Day since the Company\’s founding, the activist-based brand pioneered Earth Month in April 1999, which has since raised over US$14.2 million for environmental causes.
Estee Lauder are hosting the Aveda Walk for Water in Sydney, you can join participants such as Sami Lukis, Tracey Spicer, Samantha Tolj, Emily-Jade O\’Keefe and Jessica Carrera and Jacinta Tynan in walking for 6kmfor Clean Water Rights.

Location: Bondi Park walking to Bronte – return 6km (Start Point: Bondi Park, Campbell Parade)
Melbourne: ring route around Botanical Gardens and Yarra River; start time 11am
