Backstage with MAC Cosmetics at 7th Wonderland Swimwear

I was invited Backstage by MAC Cosmetics for swimwear label Seventh Wonderland, I was so nervous, but it was an awesome experience.  The chaos that unfolds in the hair and makeup tent is truly insane, all the hairdryers buzzing at once kept short-circuiting and inside, an absolute sauna and bright lights of a dressing room!

I spoke to the very calm and ethereal Sam Correy, Key Makeup Artist for MAC Cosmetics to get the lowdown on their beauty inspiration for Seventh Wonderland’s first show at RAFW was.

“I wanted to steer away from the typical “resort look”, instead making the girls look perfectly refreshed and hydrated, as though they’d been drenched in therapeutic waters, not the sun” said Sam.

We entered the dream world of Seventh Wonderland’s Spring/Summer 2011 “La Clef Du Monde Secret” show with MAC Cosmetics inspired by the mirror reflection of light hitting the water (think moonlight) so we saw soft milky skin with high sheen, lots of gloss and soft pale shades using lots of strobe cream, gloss cream and nude glossy lips.  Body makeup also included lashings of strobe cream again and shimmer powder to get that ethereal glow.  And what do you think of the plastic looking snake like waves on their heads?

The key trends for Spring/Summer 2010 coming through and off the international catwalks are all about the healthy glow, swimwear is no longer about the tan, it’s about good health through good eating and taking care of yourself and that’s where the healthy glow in make up is coming from.

As for the fashion parade, I wasn’t overly enthused and you know how much I love swimwear, I did love the beautiful marbling print work on one of the fabrics, designed by Bonnie Coumbe it was a “kaleidoscopic vision of marbled water in opal and bright floral prints.”  There was a lot of structure and ‘edge’ to the collection and I’ve added some images courtesy of The Vine as I couldn’t get any good shots for you.

Key Products to used to create the look:

  • Face: Studio Sculpt Foundation, Prep and Prime Transparent Finishing Powder, Contour with Root Cream Colour Base, Highlight with Strobe Cream and Gloss Crème, Blush with Bamboo Cream Colour Base.
  • Eyes: Fantastic Frost Cream Colour Base, line lashes with Kid Eyeshadow, Lashes M800-01, Lofty Brown Zoom Lash, Lash, Gloss Crème on lids, Clear Brow Set.
  • Lips: Freckletone Lipstick, Wildly Lush Plush Glass.

Thanks so much for MAC Cosmetics for having me backstage, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
