I was lucky enough to head backstage for the Kirrily Johnston “Apocalypto” Spring/Summer 2010 runway show at Australian Fashion Week and Kirrily went all tribal with her collection, the styling detail was brilliant, lots of earthiness and textures to the collection, the hair braiding and simple make up was all so eye catching.
The Apocolypto collection imagines the future of the human race, post Apocalypse, at the dawn of a New World Age, the people of th Apocalypto inhabiting an urban jungle, a space where roads are torn up by tree roots and sky scrapers are over run with creeper vines and bird life. The wilderness once tamed into submission now exists harmoniously with humanity in a world ancient and modern, savage and sophisticated!
As you can see Kirrily was inspired by the colours of the earth with a balanced pallet of black, ecru, red, stone, coffee and silver using silk georgette, fine cotton unisex knit wear, double cotton gauze day dresses, aged leather boleros blended with Kirrily’s signature touch of drapery and volume.
Supporting Kirrily we had in the front row, the beautiful and serene Sybilla Budd (she’s one of my favourite Aussie actresses and it was lovely to sit and chat with her), Alyssa Sutherland and Camilla & Marc!
And backstage we also had Dermalogica pampering the models’ skin prior to make up application. Kirrily has been using Dermalogica for 10 years and she considered it an important step in the prepping process for the models.
‘Dermalogica has been a skin care staple of mine for almost ten years now – It never fails to leave my skin feeling re-hydrated and looking healthy.  My favourite of course is the MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque.  It\’s the perfect way to feel fresh and rejuvinated after a long day at work. ‘ – Kirrily Johnston, Designer
The key Dermalogica products used to prep the models’ skin were:
- PreCleanse $65.50; Daily Resurfacer $118.00; Pure Light SPF 30 $124.00; Total Eye Care $68.50
I also scored an interview backstage with Kelly from Dermalogica, I can’t listen to myself interviewing but I hope you like it:
Can you see pieces of Kirrily’s collection in your wardrobe for Spring/Summer?
