On the weekend (Saturday 10th July 2010) I had the pleasure of being invited to attend the Sony Foundation Fashion4Ward star-studded launch event at BLUE Hotel’s Water Bar at Wolloomooloo Wharf in collaboration with Australia’s Next Top Model!
The launch of Fashion4Ward brought together collections from leading Australian designers, Alex Perry, Collette Dinnigan and J\’Aton, with the latest contestants from Australia’s Next Top Model walking the runway to the beat of Sony Music artists Rogue Traders (with new lead singer Mindi Jackson) and Amy Meredith. The models also walked in TAFE Student designs that were just beautiful.
The glamour evening was hosted by Alex Perry and Emma Freedman, Australia\’s Next Top Model judges Sarah Murdoch, Charlotte Dawson and Jez Smith, with special guests Erin McNaught, Lizzy Lovette, Geoff Huegill, Rebecca Jobson, Alyce Crawford and Renee Bargh rounding off the red carpet!
Seeing Sarah Murdoch in the flesh (I spoke to her too) was a ‘wow‘ moment I have to say, her beauty is just radiating, you can’t stop staring at her. I was lucky to be standing right next to the ANTM judges at the runway filming the show (will post to youtube at a later date) and Charlotte Dawson is a character, she even “threw” herself onto the runway at one stage to save the models from stepping on broken glass that a guest dropped onto the runway!
I was given one of Sony’s new NEX-5 digital camera’s to use at the event and it’s a bloody brilliant little piece of equipment, I did have a few technical issues but I am incredibly technically challenged so that’s no surprise. All the photos posted here tonight have been taken on a Sony NEX-5.
An exclusive showcase of Australian design and musical talent, Fashion4Ward will become one of Sony Foundation\’s annual fundraising events. Hosted by Alex Perry, the event will be held in Sydney in May 2011 and will act as the first public showcase following Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.
Funds raised at Fashion4Ward will go towards Sony Foundation\’s national fundraising campaign – You Can – to raise $15 million to build specialised youth cancer wards across Australia.
Sophie Ryan, Sony Foundation Chief Executive Office, said, “The statistics associated with youth cancer in Australia are staggering. Disturbingly, your chance of surviving certain cancers halves the day you turn 16 and there has been virtually no improvement in survival outcomes for 15 to 30 years olds over the last 25 years. We need cancer services designed specifically for this ‘forgotten generation .”
The You Can campaign
With cancer the leading cause of disease-related death amongst Australia\’s youth, there is an obvious and urgent need for action. Sony Foundation is collaborating with long time charity partner CanTeen, governments, not-for-profit organisations, corporate and community support to help create a better future for young Australians with cancer.
And it\’s really simple for you to get involved without donating a single dollar. There are over 20 million old mobile phones and ‘You Can\’ campaign calls on us Aussies to recycle our unwanted phones lying around everywhere across the country.
The Sony Foundation has partnered with an international recycling company to swap old mobile phones for cash. The funds raised will be used to improve the odds for teenagers and young adults by building youth cancer wards across Australia.
The You Can appeal is supported by Free Post mobile phone recycling envelopes inserted in national newspapers and magazines. You unwanted mobile phones can also be donated at a variety of retail partners Australia-wide including, Sony Centre, Harvey Norman, Best & Less, Domayne, Joyce Mayne, Leading Edge Computers and selected Sanity stores.

FYI: 12 models from ANTM all walked the runway so that we wouldn’t know who had made the final top six for those speculating on the forums :-)Â I haven’t posted images of all 12 girls, there were just too many from the night!
