Getting an Illamasqua Make Over at Myer

I have a secret: I have been seeing somebody else. It started as a fling, you know the type where you decide to try it out but then you fall for it hook, line and sinker? Well that is what happened to me. I’m in love with the new kid on the block… Illamasqua Cosmetics (what were you thinking!), the UK’s most covetable beauty brand has hit Australian shores with its brand-spanking, lip-smacking counter in Sydney City MYER.

Illamasqua is all about inner & outer beauty, empowering women with the freedom to express themselves. It’s roots stem from the dark 1920’s club scene and a love of make-up for film and theatre.

The collection is suitable for beginners right through to makeup artists because the range contains almost everything you could possibly imagine and each piece in the range has a funky name such as Mistress, Repulse, Vulgar and Slave. In case you were wondering, Illamasqua is exclusive to MYER department store.

The counter layout is large and spacious with a luxe feel to it and I felt at ease just wandering around asking lots of questions and playing with bright shades like Illamasqua’s Eye Metal Creme Shadow in Solstice, a bright metallic gold shadow, and then there is Intense Lipgloss in Gender a highly pigmented electric blue lip gloss that smells too good to lick off and looks unreal.

For women confused about types of foundation then look no further because Illamasqua’s range contains two different liquid bases, a cream compact base, and a powder foundation to suit your individual needs and in a great range of shades too. I am taking my best friend there very soon to match a foundation with her gorgeous chocolate skintone.

One thing I really love about the brand is their focus on brightening and highlighting skin – few brands put emphasis on brightening skin with highlighters and geamers but such a subtle yet eye-catching technique should not be overlooked. Illamasqua has liquid, creme and powder highlighters to ensure we are all set to glow.

Makeovers are not treated lightly at Illamasqua. I found myself seated at the makeover station in front of a mirror with a built-in camera that captures all the action (cool or what)! My qualified makeup artist and beauty expert Renee explained the products as she applied them while carefully ensuring she did not stand in the way of the camera. I relaxed in the chair as I listened to her and ignored the camera for the most part except for the odd time where I would raise my brows or poke my tongue at it! I was really keen to try a creme eye shadow and a creme blush because they are two things I don’t use very often and I feel it is really important to enjoy and experiment with makeup. The result: A dewy satin skin finish with a peachy blush, pewter smokey eye and a pink glossy lip.

I wore the look for the rest of the day but after a few hours I decided to inspect it. I now see why I don’t wear cream eyeshadow very often because the pewter shadow caked in the socket of my eyes leaving a visible patch of skin but I do not recall having an eye primer applied and this could have been why.

Illamasqua likes to support worthwhile causes and are proud campaigners for S.O.P.H.I.E which was set up after 20 year old Sophie was killed by youths for ‘looking different’ and Ilamasqua encourages women (and men) to embrace beauty and the freedom of choice. You can purchase their limited edition S.O.P.H.I.E products in store and online.
