Day 1: A quick hello from Samoa

| 6 September , 2010 | 3 Replies

Am saying a really quick hello from Samoa, it’s very slow here, laid back and just lovely … Sunday is a day of worship and rest and that’s what everyone was doing, we’ve forgotten how to do that back home. Everyone dresses in white to go to their place of worship with the ladies wearing lovely hats to match, it was all so lovely and pure.

Have shared a few beautiful photographs from today’s trip around the island of Apia, we visited the area at the bottom of Apia Island where the Tsunami hit last year, very sad. Some of the locals have set up home further up the mountain as they are now too afraid of the water to be near it anymore.

I’ve also included my very yummy Samoan Sunday lunch (suckling pig, chinese chicken noodles and taro root plant – there was fish but I’m not a big fish eater :-() I had today at Taufua Beach Fales which is a popular backpackers location as they have these cool huts on the beach that you can stay in.

We also went to To Sua Trench which is a hole in the earth with a ladder that goes down into the fresh water pool an dfrom there you can snorkle into an underground cave that will take you out to the ocean.

This is my shower, it’s really cool, it’s actually part of my room, but outside so it’s an open air shower! Loved it!!!

Tomorrow we have an incredibly early morning start as we head off on the ferry to the island of Savaii … I probably won’t be able to blog from there, but I hope to be able to tweet some pics, otherwise you’ll have to wait until Wednesday.

We are a day behind you guys, so it’s Sunday night here whereas it’s Monday night for you. Very tired, have a great night.
