Exclusive Interview: Rebecca Twigley’s tips for the Melbourne Cup

| 31 October , 2010 | Reply

Rebecca Twigley is Myer’s Spring Racing Ambassador and I’ve been lucky enough to get these exclusive campaign images of Rebecca and a few tips from her on how she gets through the hectic day of Melbourne Cup, well possibly every day she attends the races (all images provided have the designer details listed). I don’t know exactly what dress Rebecca will be wearing on Melbourne Cup day but her favourite race wear designer is Aurelio Costarella.

This Spring Racing season is all about soft pastel colours inspired from a palette of blush, apricot and neutrals that are accentuated by ruffles, sheers and floral prints.  Choose from cinched waists, mid length hems and peplum detailing reflecting the return to ladylike glamour (which we know is a big favourite of mine).  But if you want to channel something a bit more bold, then nautical reinvents itself playing with stripes, polka dots, box pleats and panelling – underpinned by navy, red and white.

Bow details, feathers and beads are another strong trend for spring and translate well into millinery. Structured silhouettes reminiscent of the 80\’s, transition seamlessly from winter to spring. Millinery also adopts the structured trend but is softened by the season\’s neutral palette.

So let’s get Rebecca’s top tips for looking and staying glamboyant on Melbourne Cup Day:

Sassi: What\’s your top make-up tip for the races?

Rebecca: Don\’t ‘over-set\’ your face by applying too much powder in the morning. You want your makeup to last all day but caked on make up isn\’t a good look. I prefer dewy, glowing skin set with a light illuminating powder.

Sassi: Your top tip for getting through a race day?

Rebecca: Pace yourself. I usually don\’t have a glass of champagne until mid afternoon (2-3 o\’clock).

Sassi: What are you top haircare/styling buys for a race day?

Rebecca: I like to wear my hair out at the races and my gorgeous hair and make up artist Paddy Puttock will always use the large barrel tongs on my hair in the morning and sets it with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.art Hot Style Constructor. She will then brush through the waves for a soft look and it holds all day.

Sassi: What about your favourite fragrance?

Rebecca: My choice of fragrance always depends on my mood and the weather! I love Angel Innocent by Thierry Mugler or Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb.

Sassi: What do you carry in your racing day handbag?

Rebecca: Eye drops, comb, bandaids, iPhone and cash for a cheeky bet or two.

Spring Racing Style Tips:

So there you have it, very basic but Rebecca always looks glamboyant when we see her on the red carpet and channels lady-like glamour and behaviour at all times and this is what we should be looking to channel as well, no laddish behaviour please it’s just not Sassi!!

If you haven’t got your race outfit, then I’d be hurrying into your nearest Myer store, you can visit their website for more ideas:  www.myer.com.au.
