Daria Werbowy is once again the face of Oroton’s Autumn/Winter 2011 campaign, photographed by David Mandelberg at the William Cody-designed house in Palm Springs, styled by Creative Director Ana Maria Escobar.
Steeped in the history of the brand metal ‘mesh\’ features prominently in the campaign. Bags such as the posy mesh pouch, the alba mesh tote and a custom made mesh dress reflect a season of polished perfection. I remember as a little girl always playing with my mum’s mesh purses, I loved the slinky feeling of them.
And the story behind ‘that\’ dress: ‘Robert Lane the son of Boyd Lane (founder of OROTON), told me of a house party in the 50\’s he attended. Upon arriving, he went to leave his coat in a bedroom. He opened the door and the first thing he saw was a pile of gold on top of the bed. It was all the Sydney Socialite\’s Oroton mesh bags. “It was the best surprise” he said.\’
About the William Cody-designed house in Palm Springs, California:
Built in 1964 for inventor/industrialist Stanley Goldberg, the house sits high in the San Jacinto Hills, part of a small gated community and sat next to a pair of mid-century gems by John Lautner. The interior was featured in Architectural Digest back in 1967 and many of its key features remain, rubbing shoulders with artwork and furniture in keeping with the design – including originals from the likes of Paul Evans, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Richard Schultz and Eileen Gray. Palm Springs is a popular place at the moment, I’m seeing it pop up everywhere!
I also have some exclusive behind the scenes images for you, the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection will be available in-stores and online at www.oroton.com.au from January 25th.
I love the white & gold bag Daria is holding, now that is one divine must have handbag!
