Aurelio Costarella knows how to break the conventional barriers of fashion trends and bring a unique collection to the market.
Entitled PARTISAN, the Aurelio Costarella Autumn Winter 2011 collection is a mix of delicate silk with leather, Marabou feathers and chunky knit. There is a nice variety of shape and structure, which remind Costarella of his “architectural roots“. It has a very strong industrial, bold and gritty (in a good way) look.
“This collection has taken quite a sculptural feel. I do enjoy playing with solid form as much as I do the more ethereal, diaphanous shapes,” says Costarella.
Costarella’s customer ranges from 16 to 60 years of age, giving him a wide range to work with. He says, “(my customer) is design literate, creative, confident not afraid to stand out”.
His designs are regularly featured at New York Fashion Week, giving him the opportunity to dress big names like Rihanna, Sharon Stone, Eva Mendes, Dita Von Tesse, among many others especially local girls like Jennifer Hawkins and Rebecca Twigley. However, Costarella is currently working on being the “go-to red carpet designers in Los Angeles”.
“I am busting to get a frock on Natalie Portman. I think she is just so beautiful and poised,” says the designer.
As for Autumn Winter 2011 in Australia, Costarella is a big fan of leather. “A gorgeously feminine bow blouse, a fitted leather jacket, and a great every occasion maribou bolero are my must-have picks for this season”.
Aurelio Costarella’s collection is stocked nationally in Myer, and you can visit his website for more info: www.aureliocostarella.com; the lookbook was photographed by Penny Lane featuring model Paris Fontana.
