Beyoncé: “African Queen” L\’Officiel Paris March 2011 Editorial

Finally the editorial that everyone has been in a tizz about, Beyoncé photographed by Mark Pillai as the “African Queen” for L\’Officiel Paris Magazine’s March 2011 issue which I previewed the cover and behind the scenes video last week.

Why’s everyone in a tizz (and here)? Because she voluntarily painted her face black … her mother is Creole and her father is African American, and the editorial pays tribute to the legendary Fela Kuti. Regardless of others opinions of which they are entitled, I love the editorial, lots of fun and colour to it and I see it as something positive, celebrating women of colour although I don’t define them as ‘women of colour’ they are the still a human being and we are all equal.

Wearing a variety of African-inspired dresses and jewelry by Gucci, Azzedine Alaia, Fendi, Pucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Rodarte, Dolce & Gabbana, Cartier, and Lanvin. Beyonce\’s mom, Tina Knowles, also created a one-of-a-kind couture piece for the shoot!
