Sassi: What do you love most about a day at the races?
Jodi: A day at Royal Randwick, especially during Sydney Carnival, is a fantastic opportunity to embrace new season fashion, dress up from head to toe and enjoy a fun day out with your friends. Royal Randwick always has a huge crowd that is fun, enthusiastic and fantastically stylish. This Sydney Carnival I\’m really looking forward to seeing how much effort everyone makes to dress up and have fun.
Sassi: Why is this year\’s event-series at the Royal Randwick so special?
Jodi: Sydney Carnival at Royal Randwick is one of the most anticipated social events of the year. The Sydney Carnival showcases the nation\’s best thoroughbred racehorses and the thrill of seeing these magnificent animals compete, along with the buzz of a Carnival raceday, is really amazing.
This year will be especially exciting with Sydney celebrating two milestone races.   On David Jones Australian Derby Day, the 150th Derby race will run, and on Emirates Doncaster Day the 100th Oaks race will take place. This is a particularly exciting time for racing enthusiasts.
Sassi: Share your style tips for looking chic and polished trackside?
Jodi: It\’s all about the hats. An amazing headpiece will make you feel fabulous. Invest in a classic piece in a strong Autumnal colour – you will have it forever. Think sophisticated, polished and clean cut outfits and closed toe, comfortable shoes. It\’s a long day to be on your feet!
Sassi: What race traditions appeal to you?
Jodi: Racing is such a traditional sport. It is part of the rich history of this country. I really like seeing the bookies and punters in a frenzy just before the race, and of course watching people cheer their horse down the home straight.  The buzz is very exciting.
In terms of fashion traditions at the races, for ladies a hat or head piece is a must. For Autumn racing a felt or wool based-hat is absolutely appropriate and this year sculptural, clean shapes will be a huge hit.
Sassi: Tell us about your role as the Royal Randwick carnival ambassador?
Jodi: I will be judging Fashions on the Field on David Jones Derby Day and Fashion Spotting on Emirates Doncaster Day.
Sassi: Which other celebrity faces always look fabulous at the races?
Jodi: I think Megan Gale always looks amazing. Megan, Emma Freedman and Gai Waterhouse are the David Jones Ambassadors on track for Derby Day.  Also Kate Waterhouse always looks incredible and very stylish.
Sassi: Heels or flats?
Jodi: I always choose to wear heels at the track however remember to wear them in first to ensure a pain-free day. Of course, you can put some flats in the cloak room for when you are leaving.
Sassi: Do you have any tips on horses to watch in the carnival?
Jodi: The Doncaster is my favourite race of Sydney Carnival. Ilovethiscity is trained out of Royal Randwick by Grahame Begg and should be a one to watch and of course Singo and Gai will be cheering on crowd favourite More Joyous.
Sassi: Tell me about the David Jones Marquee?
Jodi: The David Jones marquee is a black and white oasis during Derby Day at Royal Randwick. The guest list is glamorous and it\’s a sea of very smart men and women dressed head to toe in the traditional colours of Derby around the world – black and white.
