Red carpet regular, Dannii Minogue, has added another collection to her fashion label, Project D, with partner in crime, Tabitha Somerset-Webb. This time she’s adding a red carpet element to the edgy designs and calling the collection ‘Holiday’.
Confused? So was I.
Therefore, we asked Dannii & Tabitha directly on how the outfits in their latest collection transform from day to night and why their label sounds like a secret agent code.
What’s the inspiration behind the title of the collection, “Holiday”?
The collection initially launched in the UK around the Christmas holiday period, hence the title.
How did the red carpet collection idea come about? Was there a gap in the market?
Being a red carpet regular, I am always looking for the perfect red carpet dress. Between Tabitha and I, we had so many ideas of what the perfect dress should be so we decided to make it happen for ourselves. We never set out to fill a gap in the market, we just wanted to make beautiful dresses that make women feel confident and look gorgeous.
How does the ‘Holiday’ collection reflect on its day-to-night image?
We don\’t think that you need to walk the red carpet for an excuse to look glamorous. Like the ‘Cupid’ dress (a Sassi favourite), it’s perfect for the ‘day to night\’ concept. With cute little sleeves that cover the top of the arms and modestly cut to the knee, it is ideal for wearing to business meetings or lunch dates – understated, teamed with flats. For after-work cocktails and a night on the town, all you need to do is throw on some killer heels and some fab jewels.
Who is a ‘Project D’ Girl? Is she different in Australia to the UK?
We don\’t think so. As we always say, when we design a collection we don\’t look to fads or trends. We try to create pieces that will appeal to all women, regardless of shape, age or which hemisphere you happen to live in.
Tell me about the name Project D? It sounds like a secret code name.
Funnily enough it kind of was a code name! When we very first started out and we had to keep everything quiet, we would refer to it as ‘Project D\’ so no one knew what our secret discussions were about. When it came to naming the brand, ‘Project D\’ was a natural choice for both of us.
What\’s next for Danni Minogue and Project D?
Well I don\’t want to give away too many secrets but we will continue to focus on (the brand’s) key strengths and keep creating collections that we believe will appeal to all women. Our new collection will be launching in July with more gorgeous, feminine pieces and hopefully we\’ll just keep growing the brand from one season to the next. We have so many ideas – there\’s a lot more to come from Project D.
