Directed by: Steve Antin
Starring: Cher, Christina Aguilera, Alan Cumming, Stanley Tucci

When small-town waitress Ali (Aguilera) makes her way to Los Angeles, seeking fame and fortune, she soon finds herself serving drinks at the all singing, all dancing Burlesque Lounge, where despite the glitz and glamour, profits are sinking, with the club soon to follow. With some reluctance the bar owner and mistress Tess (Cher) gives Ali a chance to perform, and what follows is a Cinderella story that is carried off with a little more sass and lace than the usual rendition.

With a killer cast and some camp cameos from Alan Cumming and Stanley Tucci, Burlesque has all the right ingredients, but can be described as being a little underdone in the baking. Yes, the plot is a tad predictable; yes, the acting is at times questionable; and yes, the burlesque dancing is a little toned down – but despite these perhaps pedantic critiques, Burlesque is also fabulously fun, unapologetically girlie, and acts to showcase the incredible vocal talents of Ms Aguilera and Cher in irresistible fashion.

Now out to own or hire on DVD, Burlesque has all the sparkle and sexy allure required for a fabulous girls\’ night in. The rule here, ladies: don\’t take it too seriously, and you won\’t be disappointed.
