Neon brights hit the city as Melbourne Spring Fashion Week launched  its 2011 program, with the announcement of Dannii Minogue and Sophie Van Den Akker as the event Ambassador and Face by Lord Mayor Robert Doyle.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle shared at the launch event held on Tuesday this week:
“Melbourne Spring Fashion Week showcases the very best in local talent. We are proud to have 80 per cent of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week made up of Melbourne designers, more than we have had in any other year,” the Lord Mayor said.
“Everything you see on the runways can be purchased in store, which is something that sets Melbourne Spring Fashion Week apart from other fashion shows. The event drives people into city stores and for every $1 Council spends, $4 is injected into the local economy. A key part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is to support local businesses.”
This year there will be free dusk runway shows at City Square, fashion retail installations as part of Look.Stop.Shop, and an even greater focus on emerging talent with the Spotlight Emerging Designer Series. New elements have been blended with event favourites including the hallmark Designer Series, free workshops and runways at City Square, and the Business Series.
Melbourne Spring Fashion Week will take place from Monday September 5th to Sunday 11th 2011. For more information, please visit www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/msfw.
