The long awaited return of Miranda Kerr to the David Jones runway was totally worth the wait. The stunner, along with a crew of fellow models, were dressed to perfection in this season\’s hottest looks. But what was equally captivating was the makeup looks created by none other than Australia\’s leading makeup artist: Napoleon Perdis.
We were backstage with Mr. (Fabulous) Perdis and he gave us a rundown on the inspiration for the looks for David Jones\’ Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Launch. Last night was all about the lips, the looks centred around three different lip colours, Red, Orange and Nude …
LOOK 1: The Red Lip
“All three looks are very much about a perfect canvas (which means the important two-part prep step of Napoleon Complex Skin Renewal Serum and either Auto Pilot or Mattifying Mineral Primer) but this look in particular requires a perfectly maintained canvas. This is a very luxurious look, very Northern European aristo-glam. I was also inspired by Paloma Picasso and her signature red lip and a very classic Old Hollywood aesthetic. I met up with Miranda [Kerr] in LA and was so taken by her amazing blue gaze; I wanted a look that really enhanced her eyes. Even though I’ve made the focus her lips [with my new Double Agent Rouge Palette], her eyes pop like never before.”
LOOK 2: The Orange Lip
“I’m loving lipstick at the moment. When a woman wears lipstick, she leaves her mark, whether it’s on a man or a coffee cup. It’s high summer in LA at the moment and I’ve been making my wife wear my DeVine Goddess Lipstick in Hara constantly. It’s an amazing shade of orange, an attention-getting statement that’s face freshening and really speaks to the Spring/Summer season. To me, it’s young Hollywood meets the desert chic of Palm Springs. I’ve taken this look forward by balancing the lip with a gloss shadow on the lids.”
LOOK 3: The Nude Lip
“This look was inspired by my trip to South Africa. It’s all about beautiful earthy tones with an emphasis on the art of contouring. Eyes are accented with metallic bronze and copper shades while bronzer and blush sculpts the face and helps to sharpen your features. This is probably the most wearable of the three looks. What woman doesn’t want killer contours?”
