Just like classic novels, old school oversized headphones and Michael Jackson\’s greatest hits, all things old are becoming new again and Wheels & Dollbaby’s 2011 Spring/Summer Collection, La Pin Up Deshabillable is no exception. Photographed by Penny Lane featuring Aussie Perth beauty Millicent Lambert.
Drawing inspiration from Hollywood’s first glamour girls, think Elizabeth Taylor goes on summer vacation. (Or maybe just sits poised uninterrupted in her Upper East Side living room). Its polished pin up girl glamour meets a little bit of new edge rock with fun modern prints and classic cuts. Oriental inspired pieces contrast against pinks and reds vibrant enough to blush behind you hand sewn, lace hanker chief. Even Courtney Love LOVES it!
Here are some stand out stars from the collection that should help buy you your first class ticket to 1920s Hollywood chic:
Lace Corset Dress (above): All I can say is Oo lah lah! A head turner and jaw dropper, the French lace and femme fatale edge is enough to score you your own presidential scandal. The sweetheart cut of the neckline accentuates what may or may not be there in a subtle yet alluring way and the pencil line of the dress elongates shorter torsos. This dress my not be for the faint of heart but its sure to make men faint at your feet!
Petticoat print dress: The oriental flower print may say geisha girl, but the rock star glamour cut says danger. Now I\’m not quite sure exactly when all things Japanese became cool again&we could still be riding the Tokyo drift wave, or have possibly jumped on a new one after Karaoke became available on PS3. Regardless, cherry blossom pinks, soft floral and blood red lips are back and bigger than ever! This dress may be a little out there, but team it with some plain pumps and sexy tousled curls, and you\’ve got yourself a red carpet winner.
Black lace Dress: Feel like hiding from the paparazzi a little? Never fear, there are some corner shop worthy pieces in the collection. This black lace number channels understated glamour and over worked casualty by teaming simple elegance with carefree fun. The A line skirt will balance out top heavy girls and the pinched waist will create the allusion of curves for those less hourglass like.
Note: The blue belt against the black of the dress is this seasons staple! Think bright colours layered on one anther and soft pastels with basic black and white.
The Pencil Skirt: My favourite thing about this new range is the sexy pencil skirts, a real golden globe winner on those of us lucky enough to have the whole tall and thin thing going on! Though if you\’re like me and not Miranda Kerr, be brave and try out the Tutu\’s and petticoats as well because pencil skirts are not for everyone! (Shoot me if you wish, it had to be said).
So reach for your (fake) pearl necklace and strap on your inappropriately high stilettos to hit the town starlet style&minus the cancerous not-so-chic anymore cigarette. It\’s going to be one delectable and stylish summer!
