Hip Hip Hooray for Beautiful Lashes! Maybelline Great Lash Mascara turns 40

| 22 August , 2011 | Reply

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara is turning 40 and to celebrate Maybelline has partnered with three world class fashion designers to give that famous green and pink tube makeover. Max Azria, Tracey Reese, and Vivenne Tam have all taken inspiration from their own collections to create these new limited edition designs.

Great Lash Mascara has been an enduring staple of the Maybelline range – one mascara still being sold every 1.2 seconds worldwide. We anticipate someone will be getting their fair share of birthday well wishes…

Maybelline traces it’s story all the back to 1913 when Chicago glamourpuss Mabel Williams used soot from her oil lamp to darken her lashes in an attempt to gain the attention of an unrequited love. Afraid she was going to be literally blinded by love, her younger chemist brother Thomas developed a safer mixture of carbon and vaseline. Two years later Maybelline was born, Mabel got her guy, and the rest of us had a lot better options to look forward to then smearing the left overs from our oil lamps in our eyes every morning.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara limited edition collection will not be available in Australia unfortunately but I thought we’d celebrate her 40th anniversary, she’s been looking after our lashes for a long time! Check out these old adverts from Maybelline!
