Alyssa Sutherland is a Woodland Fairy in Mimco’s Spring/Summer 2011 campaign. Photographed by Christian Blanchard in regional Victoria, the “Wilderness Manifesto” Collection is inspired by the magic that exists at the bottom of the garden.

Nature at it\’s finest, combines with trash that was once treasure, the pioneering and irreverent spirit of the gypsy as well as the unseen yet always present, world of the fairy. The 60\’s, 70\’s and late 80\’s/early 90\’s are the strongest influences for the season, with each era bringing a different element to the collection, but morphing together to create a new modern.

The Spring/Summer season has been broken down into two collections; “Her Elemental Journey” and “Upcycle Maverick.”

Her Elemental Journey speaks to the traveller and her need for communion with the natural world. A smorgasbord of metallic leaves, animalia influences, chainmail, rope trimming, tortoiseshell acetate, pearls, metal feathers and twigs, and an organic wood trimmed turnlock on shoes and bags. Handbags are relaxed and practical, with satchels and frames making the key statement. Shoes offer texture and diversity through leopard pattern surface interest, metal tipping, wooden and rope finished heels. The palette is warm and neutral with tones of taupe, cement, terracotta, metallic bronze and mustard, worked back with antique brass and soft gold and brushed silver hardware. Her travel is eternal and her look reflects the inner explorer.

Upcycle Maverick is her world of recycled collections with a nod to an ad hoc sporty spirit – she takes the castoffs she finds and makes them beautiful again. Cogs meet enamel flowers, chains are laced with zipper tape, climbing clips become jewellery clasps and handbags are padded, perforated and zipped. Shoes have an air of the modernist to them, with clean lines and clever detailing. Our maverick favours the boldness of black, linen, Russian red and indigo worked back with  dove grey and a touch of nude. Metal is shiny and can be seen in both rhodium finish and sleek gunmetal. She works a bit of this, a bit of that&and brings it together with a random but refined style.
