Dancing Queen Sonia Kruger has foxtrotted into fashion with her debut Event Wear Collection, “Sonia Kruger” available exclusively at Myer.

A big lover of fashion, Sonia has been lucky enough to parade some of the most glamboyant gowns around as host of Dancing with the Stars and she wanted to create a range of affordable and flattering dresses for women of all ages that came with ‘hidden’ support that enhanced your natural shape and gave you that boost of glamour confidence.

“These dresses are gorgeous and will allow you to get noticed for all of the right reasons. It’s so important to feel great in what you’re wearing and these designs will certainly do that” – Sonia Kruger

We were lucky enough to chat to Sonia about her new fashion collection and get the lowdown on her top wardrobe picks this season!

Sassi: Tell us about your new fashion collection? How did it come about? Did working on Dancing with the Stars contribute?

Sonia: I’ve been lucky to wear some amazing gowns on Dancing with the Stars and have always loved fashion.  We started developing the collection about a year ago and I worked closely with Designworks in Melbourne to create this collection of event wear exclusively for Myer.

Sassi: You say that the new collection is designed specifically for the woman who want to look amazing but also realize that comfort is key and talks about a ‘miracle mesh’ tell me about that?

Sonia: Many of my girlfriends wouldn’t think about going out in a special dress without putting shapewear underneath it so I thought why not build it into an event wear range?

Sassi: What was your inspiration for this collection?

Sonia: I wanted to develop an affordable collection that could be worn to the races, a wedding and Christmas parties amongst other things. There are cocktail length dresses and maxis that can be dressed up or down for day or night.  The average price is around $200.

Sassi: Did you get involved in the design process? How did you enjoy the entire process of designing? Was it challenging?

Sonia: I was very involved in the design process so we looked at trends and colours and have incorporated what’s hot into the designs…for example different types of lace over a nude base.  The design process was really exciting and I learnt a lot working with the talented people at Designworks.

Sassi: What kind of women can relate to Sonia Kruger and who you think will be picking up one of your dresses?

Sonia: Women of all ages will hopefully relate and like the collection but it’s particularly suited to the gals out there who want a little bit of hidden support to deal with problem areas like tummies, hips and bottoms.  A lot of my friends who have just had babies love it!

Sassi: Tell us your top five wardrobe essentials for the upcoming season:

  1. A great outfit for a day at the races
  2. A little black dress to take you out for those afterwork end of year functions
  3. A beautiful maxi to wear to barbeques and pool parties
  4. A colorful Christmas party dress to make you feel fabulous
  5. Sunscreen

Sassi: Do you have an outfit in your wardrobe that you truly love? What it is and why?

Sonia: The ‘Marilyn’ dress we designed for Myer is my favorite wardrobe item!  It’s universally flattering and has been our hottest seller in store.

Sassi: Dancing with the Stars is over for another year, what are you currently working on that we can look forward to seeing?

Sonia: Melbourne Cup Carnival is what I’m currently working towards.  It’s a week of fun and frivolity…but most of all fashion!

Sassi: Do you still practice your dancing?

Sonia: Although I don’t train as a dancer anymore I still love it and take any opportunity I can to bust out a few moves.

With prices ranging from $199 – $269, the collection provides a designer look at an affordable price and is available nationally exclusively at MYER, phone 1800 811 611 for your nearest stockist.
