Directed By: Christian E. Christiansen
Staring: Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly, Cam Gigandet
Sassi\’s Star Rating: 2.5/5

It\’s not hard to remember the list of things I was worried about when I first boarded at uni. Will I get on with my roommates? Are we going to drive each other crazy within the first week? Are they going to be a deranged, psycho killer?…Not so much. But after watching The Roommate, I\’m considering it was something that I could have spared a moment contemplating.

Sara (Minka Kelly) makes fast friends with new college roommate Rebecca (Leighton Meester) and the girls quickly become inseparable. But as their friendship deepens Sara begins to realise that Rebecca\’s quirks might be a little more dangerous then she first believed.

One by one Sara\’s friends avoid her, her ex disappears, and Rebecca\’s demands for her attention grow wilder. Then Rebecca\’s obsession with Sara starts to become lethal.

The Roommate is the Single White Female for the adolescents of today. While it may not hold the power of the original this teen thriller is still one seriously scary movie. Meester is unnerving as the psychotically obsessed Rebecca, a far cry from her other current onscreen role in Monte Carlo.

You may not get too many surprises in this film, but it ticks the all the boxes of a good genre flick. This reviewer\’s advice: don\’t watch this DVD when you\’re home alone for the night.

The Roommate is out on DVD now
