Considered one of Australia’s favourite actresses, Asher Keddie, is the November Cover Girl for the Australian Women’s Weekly as photographed by Grant Matthews wearing Kate Sylvester. When Asher won her first Logie as Australia’s most popular female actor (she was nominated six times prior as “most outstanding actress’) for her role on Offspring as Nina Proudman, Asher said:
“You’ve no idea how happy I am that I’m the most loved,” when she collected her award. “The most popular, that’s so cool. I don’t care if I’m good or not.” (although we know that’s a lie she does care!!)
I asked Helen McCabe, Editor in Chief of the AWW why she thought Asher was so popular and why she’s this month’s Cover Girl:
‘Asher is interesting. It doesn’t matter who you talk to they all say the same thing. And that is ‘I love Asher’. So she has just touched a cord. Besides this is a beautiful image … And there’s a horse!’
The editorial inside is photographed on Asher and her husband Jay Bowen’s property in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, where they call their ‘private universe away from the roar of the crowd’ with their five horses. Inside Asher is really open about her life and who she is, we learn more detailed information about her roles playing Ita Buttrose in Paper Giants and Blanche d’Alpuget in Hawke, about her life as a child and her life with her husband. And she addresses the constant question from everyone about having children saying: “Why are we only considered successful if we can juggle family and a demanding career?”
It’s really a great interview and if you love Asher picking up this month’s issue when you don’t normally would be worth the $6.95.
The November issue is on newsstands today and you can read more at the AWW website.
