Director: Andrew Niccol
Cast: Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy
Sassi\’s Star Rating: 3 / 5

In Time is director, Andrew Niccol\’s futuristic film with tonnes of ideas about how precious time is and how it could become the commodity of the future. Time is the currency and post 25 years of age, everyone has just one year to enjoy, unless, of course, you can find some more time. Everything is paid in time from your coffee to the rent and even used for gambling! It is an amazing concept and definitely has you thinking about what your options are when your time is running out.

Each person has their ‘time\’ represented on their arm for all to see, which also creates another tension point with the threat of others stealing your time. Will Lasar (Timberlake) plays Mr. Nice guy who finds himself with more time than he ever thought possible after discovering the true reason behind the lifestyle set up for zones throughout the world. He makes it his mission to dispense time to others in order to extend their lives but not without causing a huge amount of ruckus!

Sylvia Weis (Seyfried), in a major departure from her Mamma Mia and Red Riding Hood innocence comes from one of the more posh zones where time-keeping is not a problem. Their lives are at a slower pace, everyone is easy going because they are immortal! Who wouldn\’t be happy with that? Apparently immortality has its drawbacks. Meeting with Will changes her life and her view of time forever as she reluctantly embarks on an adventure with him to the ghetto zones!

But timekeeper Raymond Leon (Murphy) is delightfully cast in this dark role as he sets his sights on Will and Sylvia racing through zones looking for stolen time! Just like the Director\’s other big hit, The Truman Show – he has some amazing ideas here, so check it out.

Time is precious – but see it anyway!

In Time is in cinemas now.
