Director: Douglas McGrath
Cast: Sarah Jessica Parker, Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Kelsey Grammer
Sassi\’s Star Rating: 4.5/ 5

I Don’t Know How She Does It is Sarah Jessica Parker\’s latest film that explores the complexity of being a high-flying executive and, more importantly, a mum. Whether it is by holding down the family by ‘faking\’, not baking pies or travelling interstate to seal the deal, Kate Reddy (Parker) is doing it all. She is on the up and up at work breaking new grounds and proving herself as a professional in her own right to her boss (Grammer) who doesn\’t seem to understand the need to have family time as well as work time. Not to mention her sneaky colleague (Meyers) who is just waiting to pounce if she misses a step, in order to take full credit. Don\’t look for any of SATC fashionista trends here, unless you like breakfast served on your work suit!

Kinnear plays Richard, Kate\’s incredibly supportive hubby and he does it with such love and compassion (He\’s our Aiden from SATC – and we all LOVE him). This film really plays out those difficult conversations that couples have with the ups and downs of work and how this can impact us so intimately at home. The milestones that we treasure so much can be missed so easily when work pulls us away. There is a lovely scene between the big account executive Jack Abelhammer (Brosnan) and SJP that I won\’t spoil for you but many a woman has been in this tricky situation. It is beautifully played out and it is this kind of interplay that makes this film one of my favourites.

Olivia Munn is a crack up playing Kate\’s right hand gal Momo. She is the complete opposite of Kate when it comes to life and sharing her emotions but they each learn from one another. It playfully investigates the relationships we build both at work and at home and gives us the opportunity to realise that we need to give ourselves a break – we can do it all, but we just have to admit that we are human and maybe it won\’t be perfect – but that\’s OK.
I really don\’t know how SJP does it but we love her for it!

In case you missed it, you can check out SJP’s press conference, her Oaks Day Ladies Luncheon and her Red Carpet launch for the film.

I Don’t Know How She Does It is in cinemas now.
