Not even the torrential rain that bucketed down in Sydney last night (November 16th) could keep the Aussie and international stars of film and television from missing the 2011 Jameson IF Awards Sydney.
Hosted by the singing, dancing Eddie Perfect, the awards took place at Luna Park with guests including Ronan Keating, David Wenham, Xavier Samuel, Daniel MacPherson, Zoe Ventoura, Richard Roxburgh, Callan McAuliffe, Ryan Corr, Justine Clarke and Modern Family\’s Ariel Winter.
This year\’s awards was dominated by Box Office favourite Red Dog, which took out seven awards on the night including IF Award for Best Script, the Event Cinema IF Award for Best Box Office Achievement, IF Award for Cinematography, IF Award for Best Music and the coveted Showtime IF Award for Best Feature Film … he even hit the red carpet, most outstanding look of the night!
The Dinosaur Designs IF Award for Best Actress went to Emily Watson for Oranges and Sunshine while the IF Award for Best Actor went to Josh Lucas for Red Dog.
We caught up with Ronan Keating on the red carpet who was promoting his debut film Goddess, which tells the story of a young mother of twin boys, married to Keating\’s character who installs a webcam in her kitchen to watch her children and fast turns into an internet sensation with her funny kitchen songs.
On his involvement in the Australian film, Ronan said:
“I was in Vietnam doing a gig and Mark (Lampress, the film\’s director) was looking for someone to play this character. So he jumped on a plane with the script and we workshopped it for three or four hours in the hotel and before he left he said ‘You\’re perfect\’, which was just overwhelming for me because I thought this guy\’s crazy coming out to Vietnam (laughs). And then they asked me to do it so I jumped at the chance and it\’s just been a dream job. We shot three and a half months here in Australia… and it was just a dream and I\’m ready for the next one.”
Also rocking the red carpet were Jessica Tovey from Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo and Underbelly: The Golden Mile in a stunning nude dress by Perth based designer Zhivago along with Sophie Lowe from The Slap in a vibrant floor length dress by Romance Was Born.
Commenting on the IF Awards Sophie said (who we’re loving in “The Slap” right now):
“They\’re really great because they\’re voted by the public so you get an insight into what the public thinks of Australian film. I think it\’s great.”
Additional winners on the night included Kriv Stenders for the IF Award for Best Direction for Red Dog, Anna McGahan – most recently seen in Underbelly: Razor – for the Out of the Box IF Award and Rachel Perkins, known for First Australians and Bran Nue Dae, for the Docklands Studio Melbourne IF Award for Contribution to Television.
