A Star Studded Affair at the 2011 GQ Men of the Year Awards Event, Sydney

Not even the torrential rain that bucketed down in Sydney last night (November 23rd) could keep the stylish and the suited up from the 2011 GQ Man of the Year Awards.  Hosted by Triple J presented, Wil Anderson, the awards took place at The Steps, Sydney Opera House with high profile hotties, oops guests Warrior Actor Joel Edgerton, Hawaii Five-O Alex O’Loughlin and Twilight’s Kellan Lutz (with the gorgeous Sharni Vinson – wearing Alex Perry – on his arm).

This year\’s, extra excitement was surrounded by Hawaii Five-O actor Alex O\’loughlin and Twilight\’s Kellan Lutz. We caught up with Alex briefly to see where he preferred to live Australia or Hawaii, which he responded with saying:

“Hawaii and Australia are very similar so I feel like I am half way home when I am over there”.

Alex looked super sophisticated in a Gucci Tux and when asked on his current status he replied saying “he has a girlfriend who was there with him, she is the gorgeous one of course.” No sign of her on the carpet but it caused a bit of stir on Twitter with his fans claiming he only ever speaks of his dog Dusty in interviews and no significant other.  Hmmmm!

Kellan Lutz and Sharni Vinson looked quite tanned which sparked rumours of a potential holiday together perhaps? Kellan wore a Burberry suit and when asked on how he is enjoying his visit to Australia, he replied with:

“I love it, would love to live here Australia is a lovely place”.

The GQ Man of The Year Awards fashion fit the black tie code with plenty of black embellished gowns and tailored tuxedos. The ladies frocks varied in lengths from short and fitted, to long and elegant. Feathers, sequins and sheer fabrics were a common trend, teamed up with classic hair styles, fresh make up and simple accessories.

We caught up with editor of GQ Australia, Nicolas Smith who looked stylish in Burberry on the black carpet, and asked him what he thinks a man should aim to be:

“I think a man should aim to be successful in life. That does not just mean in his career but in his family, with love, relationships life. I believe he should aim to be a modern day man with traditional values”

Nicolas\’s top three picks on who should walk away with the Man of the Year award were Cadell Evans, Joel Egerton and James Magnussen.

Swimmer James Magnussen wore an Ermenegildo Zegna suit accompanied by his girlfriend who wore Carla Zampatti on the black carpet. James was asked what qualities he thought was important for a man to have, he responded by saying:

I believe a man should be trustworthy, loyal and have courage in life and capture the Australian sense of humour”

Also gracing the black carpet was the lovely Tara Moss who we know is a Sassi Favourite and she wore an Alex Perry frock, paired up with Paspaley pearls. Tara loved experiencing the black carpeted event as she said to us:

“I love men in black ties, it is a bit of a fantasy of mine”.

When asked what should define the man that wins the Man of the Year Awards , Tara responded with:

‘I think being funny and having style is important, I would love to see a writer with the man award” – hint hint GQ, her divine hubby Berndt Sellheim.

Also walking the black carpet were; Megan Gale (wearing Dolce & Gabbana), Rachael Taylor (looking divine in Dion Lee), Xavier Samuel, Kirstie Clements, George Houvardas, Hugh Sheridan, Manu Feidel, Charlie Pickering, Brett Emerton, Jodhi Meares, Samantha Wills and Michelle Bridges.
