Sydney writers/producers Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey and director Carlo Ledesma have beaten eighty other entrants to take out first place in this year\’s Movie Extra Webfest competition with their doomsday thriller concept trailer, Event Zero. The trio have won a one hundred thousand dollar production budget to develop their winning idea into a seven part webseries which will premiere on The Movie Network Channel\’s YouTube channel in 2012.
Event Zero is set in the throws of a major train derailment in busy Sydney train station Circular Quay. Emergency workers arrive on the scene only to realise that the disaster is even worse then they feared. People who were unharmed in the accident are suddenly dropping dead, and the epidemic is spreading rapidly. Each of the seven webisodes will follow a different character, their stories gradually interconnecting as the audience tries to piece together the origin of the threat.

The competition requires entrants to come up with a creative idea for a short digital series and create a sixty second trailer which can be voted on by the public. The winner is then decided by a panel of industry judges. This is the second year of the competition which is run by television channel Movie Extra with support from Screen Australia.
Second place was won by Victorian born Julian Costanzo with his humorous offering Betty and Frank Will Have Sex while third place was taken out by Queenslander Steve Baker for Cold Cold Ground.
