Wrap Up of My Trip To Malaysia for the Nuffnang Awards and How Much Fun It Was

As you all know I headed up to Kuala Lumpur last weekend for the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards and as much as it was exhausting it was a brilliant weekend, I had a lot of fun and met some really great people and it didn’t matter one iota that I didn’t win, it was such an honour to have been nominated and invited to spend the weekend up there.

I flew from Coolangatta to Melbourne to meet up with fellow nominees and Aussie support team where we boarded the Asia Air X flight to KL at 1.25am on Friday morning, it was not pretty to say the least. I was incredibly disappointed to finally get through immigration and into the international shopping terminal at Melbourne Airport (man oh man, they need an upgrade stat!) to find Victoria’s Secret closed – boo!!  We arrived into a humid KL a little worse for wear and boarded our bus to the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel & Spa that I was very much looking forward to getting to my eyes were hanging out of my head!

Set in a rural area about 30-40mins from KL city, it was no disappointment when we arrived, huge and imposing and beautifully decorated in the Christian festive spirit I couldn’t wait to get to my room to shower and have a killer sleep because that night we had to get all frocked up for the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards Ceremony!

My new friend Sarah from A Beach Cottage, (read her Camping at Melbourne Airport Story here) and I had booked ourselves in for some pampering in the spa to get our hair done, the girls were lovely and hairdressers they were not but I looked much better than I was feeling!

Anyway, onto the awards, it was a really fun evening with me and Caz from YTravelblog in fits of laughter throughout the night, they had some rather random entertainment for an awards evening, think Burlesque Dancers grinding into their chairs and transgender pole dancers in tighty whities and Malaysian Hosts with really strong American accents, I forgot I was in KL.  The awards aims to honour the creme de la creme of bloggers across the Asia-Pacific region with around 500 bloggers invited to the gala dinner – seriously it was huge!

Considering how big the online world is in Asia and how big their audiences are, the team of finalists from Australia (yes including me) was pretty impressive, they included:

  • Christie from Childhood101 – who won her category Best Parenting Blog once again
  • Rachel from Sesame Ellis – finalist for Best Photography Blog
  • Helen from Grab Your Fork – finalist for Best Food Blog
  • Alicia from Sea of Ghosts – finalist for Best Fashion Blog
  • Minh and Qing from Eat Show & Tell – winners for Most Original Blog Design
  • Liz from Lizosaurus – finalist for Most Original Blog Design
  • Caz & Craig from Ytravelblog – finalist for Best Travel Blog
  • Sarah from A Beach Cottage – finalist for Hidden Gem
  • Steve for Best Micro Blog for his twitter @Melburnian

And we can’t forget our amazing supporters who came along; Nikki from Styling You, Mel from One Crafty Mumma, Nicole from Planning with Kids and Kat from The Organised Housewife (I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone, sincere apologies if I have).

The Saturday everyone was rather tired and we went on an organised bus tour (I didn’t go to the after party at the nightclub, I was just too tired and put on my nanna slippers and toddled off to bed), that wasn’t the best but anyway, we were only there for such a short time and we were more excited about the shopping time than sightseeing – hello Sephora!  The shopping at the Pavillion was brilliant and check out my photos of the very Christian Christmas “Candy Wonderland” sitting in centre court, OMG, it was incredible, they are a Muslim country and they have bigger and better decorations than we do!  After a yummy Malaysian group dinner we headed to The View at G Tower for some drinks and photos and then being the nanna that I am, I headed back to the hotel to get a reasonable night’s sleep as I was flagging (no stamina!).

Breakfast with everyone the next day (check out some of the buffet pictures – biggest hotel buffet I’ve ever seen), and they all left to head home, while I was all set for a pampering day at the Spa, I wandered around took some photos of the amazing hotel, spent some time by the pool reading and relaxing and then spent the afternoon in the Dewisri Day Spa having a facial and massage and boy it was brilliant, the girls may not be hairdressers but they can pamper you! It ran over time so I was left in a bit of a rush to shower and get ready to check out of the hotel and head to the airport for the return trip to Coolangatta with Katrina. We were lucky, we had another red-eye flight but it wasn’t oversold and we had spare seats next to us to lie down on the flight.

All in all, it was a really great weekend even though it was rushed I had such a great time meeting everyone and I’m so grateful to have been invited and my highlights were; meeting everyone, the awards, my pampering day on Sunday and Candy Wonderland at the Pavilion Mall!

And lastly the Australian Nuffnang Team did an amazing job, thanks David, Dave, Tim, Holly, Lynda and Vanessa especially for pulling it altogether for us and creating a brilliant weekend and being so supportive of us.

My friend Nikki from Styling You took some great photos and I’ve borrowed some from her and of course uploaded some of my own.  You might want to go and check out some amazing photos that photographer blogger Rachel Devine took at her blog, being an amazing photographer she took some really creative shots!

That’s it from me, over and out, thanks Nuffnang and Asia Air X.
