Journey 2: The Mysterious Island featuring Vanessa Hudgens, Josh Hutcherson, Michael Caine and Dwayne Johnson is an action packed 3D sensation perfect for the family with lots to keep both parents and kids entertained. The sequel to 2008\’s Journey to the centre of the Earth features a new cast and a fresh appeal.

Sean Anderson (Hutcherson) is a typical teenage rebel. The movie starts with him racing through the streets on his motorbike, the police in hot pursuit. From these opening moments we know we\’re in for one fast paced ride. The exhilarating 3D keeps adrenalin levels pumping when Sean crashes his bike into a pool in spectacular fashion.

Sean\’s long suffering step-father is played by Dwayne ‘The Rock\’ Johnson who takes over daddy duties from previous parent Brendan Frasier. The two have a difficult relationship and Hank (Johnson) is keen to get close to Sean. When he reveals his exceptional Navy skills it seems the two are set to bond over a mutual love of adventure. The pair set off in search of Sean’s Grandfather (played by Caine) who they believe to be lost on the mythical ‘Mysterious Island’.

On their search they meet father-daughter tour guide duo Kaliani (Hudgens) and Gabato (Guzmán) who promise to lead them to the island. Once arrived they meet a myriad of wonders including tiny elephants and massive butterflies: it seems things are reversed on Mysterious Island, what was small is now big and vice versa. It\’s only after battling a giant frill-necked lizard that they find Grandfather Alexander. He has stepped up to save the adventurers, but now they have to find their way off the island that has held him trapped for 2 years.

A rollercoaster of bee rides, sinking island drama, gold-shooting volcanoes, and a search for Captain Nemo’s submarine follows in this explosive family adventure. All in all this is a rollicking good action flick that had me jumping in my seat thanks to the breathtaking 3D action!

Take a super size box of popcorn and your favourite kids!
