Directed by: Daniel Espinosa
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington
Sassi\’s Star Rating: 4.5/5
Once affectionately known as the Mr. Johansson, Ryan Reynolds has come a long way from his TV days in Daniel Espinosa\’s latest film Safe House, also starring an old favourite Denzel Washington. Matt Weston (Reynolds) is operating a Safe House as a low level agent for the CIA. His girlfriend is unaware and his whole life is a lie to protect the job but all of that is about to change. After much pleading with his boss to move up to a senior agent role, his opportunity to shine comes in the form of a “guest” at the safe house.
Enter Tobin Frost (Washington) as one of the CIA\’s men that has been off the grid for nearly 10 years when he suddenly walks into the American Consulate. What happens next transforms the movie into one action packed blockbuster that should have been out for Christmas. It\’s the Bourne Identity on steroids! Both of these leading men together rock it on the screen and had me intrigued from the get go.
This is one film that will keep you flinching and jumping here and there with unexpected highs and lows. The storyline has some typical Americanisms, but sometimes that what you want in a big budget film with lots of explosions and arm-to-arm combat. Girls, grab your guys for this one, because whilst you are checking out the lovely Ryan Reynolds, he will be learning some new moves and getting his fair share of ‘boy stuff\’ on film.
Put your thinking cap on for it as well, as it does have a great story to go with it – I just can\’t give it away or it will ruin it, but I can tell you – “No one is safe!”
Ryan Reynolds is the new Matt Damon – get to see Safe House!
Safe House is in cinemas now.
