Princess Mary Talks Motherhood & Being a Princess in the March 2012 Issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly
HRH Crown Princess Mary boldly declares that she has “the most wonderful man on earth” in the tagline on the front cover for The Australian Women’s Weekly March 2012 issue in an exclusive interview by Karen Margrethe Schelin as photographed by Linda Henriksen.
It is 12 years since Princess Mary first met Crown Prince Frederik and look at her now, transformed into a modern day Princess who considers herself Danish no longer an Australian. The mother of four talks inside about her family, working and her insecurities of proving herself “am I doing well enough?”
Although busy with her royal commitments and young family, Crown Princess Mary takes time out to enjoy the simple things, such as playing with the family dog Ziggy and discusses turning 40:
“Forty is a special event, but the day in itself hasn’t concerned me. Instead, I would say that the time prior to my birthday – entire past year, really – has been a rather reflective time for me.”
Princess Mary has spoken about the “strain” of having four children, but says she wouldn’t swap family life for anything – Christian, (6), Isabella, (4), and one-year-old twins Vincent and Josephine. The family’s Copenhagen palace comes with a live-in staff, but Mary says she still struggles to cope with the demands of motherhood.
“We feel very blessed with our four healthy, happy and lovely children,” says Mary. “First a boy, then a girl and now the twins. It was… ‘Wow, we’re having twins!’
“I realise we had the best of help, but being a mother and breastfeeding a couple of twins with two children already — it was a bit of a strain.
Despite the difficulties of having four children under five, Mary says she loves every second of her chaotic life.
“It is the most enjoyable time in your life because you are so absorbed in your own little bubble with your small, innocent children,” she says. “They are just like God delivered them.”
It’s really a brilliant interview, you can read more at the Australian Women’s Weekly website but I recommend picking up this month’s copy, it’s on newsstands today.
