The unlikely pairing of Anna (Jones) and Jacob (Yelchin) in this film is a delightful departure from the Hollywood hype. This is a very real and engaging story about love and the unfortunate circumstances that often separate those most wanting to be together. It is a fractured tale of love, loss and the struggle of trying to keep it all together whilst living in different countries. It really is a beautifully woven story that has the audience right in the palm of its hand.
Anna is trying to make it in the world of editing for a magazine back in London after attending college in America where she met the very talented Jacob, who is trying his hand at furniture making which is turning out to be his thing! Both are quite talented in their respective areas making it hard to leave their employment when so much is up in the air about ‘them\’ as a couple. Will they take a chance and make some compromises?
From the uncomfortable flirting stage where we feel like we are right there watching every tense moment leading up to their pairing and then the heartbreak of watching them separate back to their homelands, it is truly a great ride. Anyone who has ever been in a long distance relationship will relate to this one. Having been in overseas relationships a couple of times, it really hit all the buttons for me accurately depicting the loneliness and complete and utter frustration at the visa system, no matter the country.
It\’s a real story of love. No ifs, ands, or buts! And no Hollywood ending!
