Alex Perry Delivers a Glamboyant Spring/Summer 2012/13 Collection at L\’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival
It’s not very often that I feel inspired to remarry, but last night at South Wharf, I could imagine myself in every single dress from the stunning Spring/Summer 2012/13 collection from Alex Perry presented at South Wharf, Docklands for L’Oreal Melbourne Festival 2012. A stunning white sparkly gown shimmered down the runway to open setting the tone for one of the most stunning collections I have seen in years.
Inspired by Sardinia this collection was whimsical and dreamy yet strong and bold. There really was something for everyone! Sequins, flowing silk and Perry’s signature ‘red and block’ gowns stormed down the runway creating an ironic parade of angels stomping to pounding dance music that had the front row tapping their feet. Rihanna sang ‘we found a love in a whole new place’ and everyone it seems was finding a love on the catwalk.
As if to pop a candy in the middle of a sea of nude a shimmering lime full length gown with sequined bodice had audience members crying ‘I want it!’, whilst I was falling in love with Perry’s bodice work that featured sequins cascading from breast down onto the skirt in lyrebird and floral patterns that created their own little garden.
Black sequins on white gowns were perfection whilst several of the dresses were skin tight (to the knee) and featured corsetry on the bodice (my favourite). Alice Burdeau created a flame sensation in a signature red Perry gown with red silk flying behind her as she walked the length of the catwalk. Another standout was the black all sequin floor length fitted gown that actually looked a little heavy to wear but created a sleek sensation, the dressed looked almost wet from a distance but as it got close you could see every bed sparkling from top to toe. I also fell in love with a little bit of boho, ruffles all over the skirt with a corseted bodice to match – divine!
Also looking divine but not on the catwalk was Alex Perry’s friend and Muse, Megan Gale, in Alex Perry of course, sitting proudly in the front row!
Bravo to Perry for creating yet another gorgeous collection that will have Perry fans falling in love all over again and a new bevy of devotees rushing to get their own piece of Perry heaven by the Fashion Master that he is!
