Old school burlesque glamour came to town on Saturday (March 10th) in the form of Dita Von Teese’s Von Follies Lingerie Collection for the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
Opening the show was burlesque queen herself Dita who to a round of applause, wolf whistles and screams sashayed down the runway gradually removing her outer sheer robe to reveal a stunning custom made (for Von Teese) black bra, knicker, suspender and stocking set.
The tone of the parade was clearly theatrical with the girls simpering down the runway slowly with the fuller sized figured girls receiving rounds of applause for their sexy walks. Â Lush, womanly, classy and vintage were all words that sprang to mind to describe the collection. Models of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities presented the clothes (walking to a compilation created by Von Teese herself)Â including Australia’s Next Top Model winner Demelza Reveley.
Accessories (most from Dita’s on collection) including whips, leather, suspenders, tophats, capelets, veils, fascinators, lace gloves, and eye masks were de rigueur whilst being complimented by fourties inspired hair-do’s and makeup. The total affect was one of excitement and possibility – leaving the imagination to run wild. Black lace, blue, green, red and pink were dominant whilst the use of polka dots, butterfly patterns and other detail gave a decidedly feminine and pretty edge to the lingerie.
It’s no surprise that the finale resulted in a standing ovation for Von Teese’s Von Follies who wowed the Melbourne fashion community with her naughty yet definitely nice collection clearly made for ‘every’ woman to enjoy.
The collection is available from Target and be bought in stores nationally and online.
