Flora by Gucci: The Flora Garden Fragrances Will Whisk You Away to The Secret Scented Gucci Garden

Gucci have released a Garden of Scents and you will feel like you have died and gone to Fragrance Heaven …The new floral fragrance collection is a tribute to one of its most iconic motifs. Flora by Gucci: The Flora Garden Collection is a bouquet of scents inspired by the House’s renowned Flora pattern, Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini explains:

“With Flora by Gucci, I wanted to express the loveliness of the Flora woman; charming, romantic and optimistic. Now with The Flora Garden Collection I am celebrating multi-faceted way the Gucci woman expresses her personality.”

The inspiration comes from the Gucci archives, with the story beginning in Milan in 1966, when Prince Ranier of Monaco brought his wife to the Gucci boutique. Roldolfo Gucci insisted that Princess Grace choose a gift to accompany the bamboo bag she had purchased. The Princess requested a scarf. Rodolfo felt that the House lacked one sufficiently beautiful for the royal style icon and so he commissioned illustrator Vittorio Accornero to create the most beautiful print he could imagine. Accornero returned with his painting: the “Flora”, a sumptuous, multi-hued flowered template, now a design classic.

Giannini revived the Flora on printed canvas bags in Summer 2005 and in 2006 it appeared re-scaled, re-coloured and abstracted onto Forties-style print dresses, jewellery and evening bags and now it’s part of the Flora Garden Fragrance Collection.

The Flora Garden takes three blooms from the historical print and creates a bouquet of eau de toilettes in their honour.  There are five scents in the series but only three have been released with each scent based on a flower and is a mix of floral fruitiness. We can expect to see Generous Violet and Glorious Mandarin released at a later date.

Gorgeous Gardenia is a sumptuous white floral with distinct fruity tones. When first sprayed, the scent is very fruity and smells of pear and red berries. The heart of the fragrance is white gardenia and frangipani. The fragrance softly settles into the base notes of patchouli and brown sugar accord. The bottle is a hexagonal shape with a glass stopper and a small black tie at the neck. Much like the original Flora, the bottle speaks of elegance. Gorgeous Gardenia is the pink sister of the other scents and is identified by a light pink liquid.  Gorgeous Gardenia is a feminine scent, which is reminiscent of the light first blossom of the Gardenia and the sweet lushness of the full bloom – – this one is my favourite!

Gracious Tuberose is a fresh, light floral which has a distinctly elegant tuberose scent. The top notes of peach and violet leaves start the fragrance of with a fruity flavour, while hints of apple are detected. The scent then moves to a light powdery smell with notes of tuberose, orange flower and rose. The base is rock rose and white cedarwood. The scent comes packaged similarly to that of its sisters, but Gracious Tuberose is the green scent. In the same tall, hexagonal bottle with glass stopper, the liquid is a pale, fresh green. Gracious Tuberose is an elegant, refined scent. It embraces the fresh green shots, dew sprinkled on petals and lingering sillage (wake) of the scent of tuberose.

Glamorous Magnolia is a rosy floral with strong emphasis on the flower of its name. When first sprayed, the fragrance smells strongly of vanilla and red candy and has top notes of freesia, green leaves and citrus zest. The scent settles into the floral bouquet mid notes: peony and magnolia. Finally, the base notes of musk, sandalwood and warm chocolate accord show and are rich and delicious. The scent is richer and deeper than the others, with a lingering base. The scent is packaged similarly to its sisters in a tall, hexagonal bottle with glass stopper and black tie at the neck. Glamorous Magnolia is the blue scent, with a pale blue liquid. Glamorous Magnolia is a celebration of the magnolia flower in all its guises: radiant freshness, velvet petals and enduring feminine sensuality.

The campaign is fronted by our very own Abbey Lee Kershaw as photographed by Sølve Sundsbø which I first previewed back in January and I have to say that this is probably one of my favourite campaigns of all time! Take the time to look at all the photos in the gallery, so beautiful!

All three fragrances are available in two EDT sizes 50mL (RRP$109) and 100mL (RRP$164) with a matching Body Lotion in 200mL (RRP$64) and are available now from Myer, David Jones and Gucci Boutiques, for your nearest stockist call 02-9695 5678.

Seriously these are a must have for your fragrance collection, just divine!
