The star-studded cast in Rock of Ages will get you ready to party. The cast has to fight for their right though, as pious Patricia Whitmore (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is trying to shut down the famous Bourbon Room, a club in L.A. that is the essence of rock and roll.
Owner Dennis Dupree (Alec Baldwin) struggles to keep the club open and the legend of rock alive in a changing world. His hope for salvation hangs on the revenues of an upcoming concert at the club by Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), an incredibly wild sex symbol known for his unreliability.
Oh, and there is the main love story of Sherrie (Julianne Hough) and Drew (Diego Boneta), two young kids trying to make it as singers and falling in love. The young couple’s lovesick eyes and terrible lines are too cheesy to get much sympathy, but at the screening they got plenty of laughs for pure 80’s cheese. The side stories are hilarious and carry the film, particularly that of Stacee Jaxx. It doesn’t matter how you feel about Cruise, you’ll love him in this outlandish roll.
Riddled with inappropriate humor the film, directed by Adam Shankman (director of Hairspray) and based on the musical Rock of Ages, is a riot. Playing our favorite songs of the 80’s, it brings plenty of laughs. As the cast continues to burst into rock song to express their feelings, you’ll want to get out your lighter and move to the beat.
If you’re a fan of the 80’s you’ll rock out to Rock of Ages.
