With much anticipation, here’s our first look at Karl Lagerfeld’s upcoming make up collaboration with Shu Uemura for his Special Holiday Collection and it’s as whimsical as he himself is and is a perfect mix with the Manga inspired brand ambassador that Lagerfeld invented himself, known as Mon Shu (a play on the French term of endearment “mon chou”) who appears on each of the 17 piece collection reports WWD.
“It was not easy to make a limited choice with all the things they have and do,” explained the designer. “It all was supposed to go with the doll I designed for them, the mood, the spirit.”
Lagerfeld lensed the makeup line’s advertising campaign, keeping in mind what he called “Eastern, perfect, mysterious, modern beauty.”
Certain iconic products from Shu Uemura are included in the collection, such as the cleansing oil, UV Under Base (Mousse), eyelash curler, two different eye and cheek palettes based on smokey green and smokey purple. Mon Shu sports the look of each on the top of the associated compact, which contains six shades, including red. We will also see dark purple gel eyeline, two pairs of false eyelashes (one made of red and black fabric), as well as four lip shades with Mon Shu Red, Luxe Burgundy, Celebrity Beige and Parisienne Pink. Nail colors come in Karl Black, Shu Shu Red and Royal Beige, and each is sold with a strip of nail stickers featuring Mon Shu. Rounding off the collection is a mini brush kit and make up box. Some outer packaging includes SUKL on it (for Shu Uemura Karl Lagerfeld).
The line will first be introduced in October in the UK, US (online) and Canada. The following month, it will be launched in other countries, including Japan, China, Australia, Ireland, Belgium and France, which also has a Shu Uemura e-tail site.
