Ten’s new heavyweight in the reality TV stakes, Everybody Dance Now kicks off in style tonight at 7.30pm with the gorgeous Sarah Murdoch at the helm.
Hoping to recapture the waning success of dance competition shows such as So You Think You Can Dance, Ten is breathing fresh air into the genre with a younger, urban feel.
No longer will the dancers take their turn to perform in front of staid, industry professionals. Everybody Dance Now pits competitors directly against each other as they duel in a packed arena where the studio audience will decide on the winner.
In the heats, eighty-eight acts will be divided into two teams who will fight to the death to win a ten-thousand dollar prize. By the time the grand final comes around, one dance act will win two-hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
But what is most exciting, is that the teams will be headed by American Pop/R&B sensations Jason Derulo and Kelly Rowland. Between the two of them they’ve won countless awards, and probably induced hundreds of lounge room injuries as the lesser co-ordinated of us try to mimic their suave video clip styling. Looks like Ten is hoping for a little Voice style magic, as these charismatic big names compete against each other as much as the contestants do.
Everybody Dance Now promises to showcase a variety of styles from contemporary, to burlesque, to line dancing. Both seasoned and amateur will compete with contestants from every walk of life. With the youngest dancer aged only eight while the oldest boasts seventy-two years, it doesn’t look like variety is going to be a problem.
Everybody Dance now starts tonight @ 7.30pm on Channel ten, and continues Monday and Tuesday @8pm.
Are you going to be watching? We can’t wait!
