Issey Miyake’s Newest Fragrance “Pleats Please” is Very Stylish

Issey Miyake is known for his timeless, elegant concepts. His exuberance has created the iconic fashion line Pleats Please. Now, to pay homage to his signature style, he is releasing a Pleats Please fragrance – a testament to the designer’s joy and radiance.

Pleats have been part of fashion design since the dawn of civilisation. As far back of ancient Egyptian women, pleated skirts and dresses have been fundamental to style. In the late 1980s, Issey Miyake combined creativity, timelessness and practicality to create his Pleats Please line. His inspiration came from a visit to the Frankurt Ballet – Issey Miyake examined what kinds of costumes were ideal to allow the dancers to move and began to experiment. Since then the pleat has rapidly evolved, becoming more and more practical for every woman, yet still epitomising femininity and style.

The perfume, an ode to Issey Miyake’s passion captures the joyous, light-hearted character of the line. The structure of the perfume is inspired by the very structure of the pleat – shimmering highlights of light, an element of verticality and the free flowing movement it gives a garment.

The top note of nashi is intriguing – fresh, fruity and playful, representing Issey Miyake’s bright, shimmering passion. Middle notes of sweet pea and peony provide a warm joyous sensuality. It is fluid and graceful, like the flirty swing of a perfectly pleated skirt. The base note is mild, settling into notes of rich, woody cedar. Creamy vanilla blends in with warm musk notes to mellow the fragrance. Patchouli permeates the whole composition, taking on a vertical nature to reach across the whole fragrance.

This fragrance embraces unequivocal femininity, much like the Pleats Please range itself. It is perfect for every day wear, to put an extra spring in your step. We also can’t help but love the bottle – inspired by the transforming effect a pleat can have on a garment. Providing easy wear and freedom of movement, the bottle represents unrestricted expression. A sweet peachy pink colour, the bottle is folded and pleated along the glass. It is the emblem and essence of Issey Miyake’s iconic look.

The range includes an Eau de Toilette (30ml – RRP $65), (50ml – $105), (100ml – RRP $155), an Elixir Eau de Parfum (30ml RRP $65) and a Body Lotion (RRP $65).

Issey Miyake Pleats Please is available now at MYER, David Jones and selected independent stockists.
