With tropical weather in the air, it’s not surprising that the coconut craze is powering on. We just can’t get enough of coconut: coconut water, coconut oil and now, Fat Blaster have released their new 2 day Coconut Detox plan.
Coconut is widely considered to be a super food – it is naturally loaded with electrolytes, that cleanse and power your body, as well as medium chain triglycerides, that help your liver kick start your metabolism and oxidise fat.
The FatBlaster Coconut Detox is a 2-day plan, which draws on the benefits of both young and mature coconuts to help burn fat fast. One bottle provides enough for two days of detoxing – you drink half a cup of the mixture, with half a cup of water, three times a day. The detox is simple enough to do – there’s no cumbersome juicers or soups with convoluted ingredients you have to concoct – it’s just the syrup, mixed in with water.
The syrup is surprisingly tasty – even when mixed with water it forms a thick consistency, reminiscent of a milkshake or smoothie and has the tropical taste of pineapple and coconut. The consistency helps you feel like you’re not missing out on meals, and fills you up for a little longer.
That being said, two days is a long time. Many people, claimed to have felt light-headed, dizzy and lethargic during the 48 hour period. Only light exercise is recommended, and the program advises that you intersperse your detox drinks with only water.
I struggled the first day without caffeine – without a cup of coffee or green tea to jolt me awake, I felt lethargic for a great part of the first 24 hours. The second day turned out to be an even greater challenge – with nothing but water and the detox syrup in my stomach, my day dragged by hungry and exhausted. By the afternoon of the second day, I couldn’t hold out any longer. Despite this, the results were impressive – once the two days were over, the slimming effects of the detox were visible for a number of days after.
This is by no means a permanent solution, and on investigation the ingredients in the detox were far from natural. With added chemicals and preservatives to thicken the mixture and extend the program, you were still adding chemicals to your body even without eating processed foods. If detoxing in time for summer is a high priority for you, we would instead recommend investigating more natural routes such as Urban Remedy or Joe The Juicer’s Reboot Your Life Juices (available at your local Woolworths and are really delicious) both programs use the real goodness of fruit and vegetables to cleanse your system and offer a superior nutritional way to detox. And of course there is plain ol’ coconut water, you can check out previous story here.
The jury’s out on this one – the results were certainly visible, if temporary, and minor deviance from the program did not have a huge impact.
