This year, Dior is spending Christmas at Le Printemps Haussmann, the exclusive Parisian Department Store, located at 64 Boulevard Haussmann, Paris. Jean-Claude Dehix, the most famous of puppet masters, has been creating window displays for Paris department stores for over thirty years, and the windows at Printemps have come alive with his exclusive bespoke Dior dolls, The Poupettes.
The windows were revealed yesterday with special guest, Brand Ambassador Marion Cotillard in attendance to celebrate, what are sure to become, iconic and magical window displays.
(Make sure you check out the gallery below, to see all the windows and the dolls in much bigger sizes)
The 74 Poupettes, 10 of which are male, are seen wearing exact replicas of famous Dior designs, from miniature versions of Raf Simons’ debut dresses for the label to the iconic 1947 Bar suit. They wear 12 different outfits each made at the brand’s Haute Couture workshop at its Avenue Montaigne headquarters. Each of the figurine’s faces is embroidered and many come carrying reduced-to-scale accessories – including mini Lady Dior handbags, hats and fascinators.
Over nine windows, Printemps tells a fairytale in the heart of the French capital. It’s a story of joy and of celebration: the very tale of the house of Dior itself. Under the Eiffel Tower’s steel arches, they twirl and glide, beyond elegant in Bar jacket and full, flaring skirt. On the ice rink, they slice through the air, gracious skaters graced with the most Parisian of silhouettes. A little further on, under a band stand, they waltz and dance to the strains of a gramophone, bedecked in vaporous ball gowns. Look closely, for isn’t that also them clutching to a huge bunch of balloons floating over the Opéra Garnier, Printemps and the Eiffel Tower, and again at the fairground, dancing between the carrousel and the big wheel?
The brand has also launched an exclusive collection for the store, featuring silk scarves, an advent calendar and a selection of snow globes starring four different dolls. (via)
