Love her or hate her, you can’t deny that Nicki Minaj has made waves. With sought after fashion and a whole slew of top hip-hop hits, Nicki Minaj is branching out to release her first fragrance Pink Friday.
Nicki Minaj is not known for doing things by the book – with her striking style, her revolutionary mix of hip hop and pop and her kooky performances, she remains defiantly undefined. Her fragrance is no exception, as it tries to capture exactly what makes us love Nicki so much.
Opening with top notes of a mouth-watering medley of fruits: starfruit, mandarin and syrupy boysenberry, the fragrance is immediately sugary sweet and ultra-girly.
The perfume only develops in its youthful playfulness with a bouquet of lotus flowers and star jasmine. The scent captures the teasingly quirky heart of Nicki’s performances.
Finally, the fragrance settles into indulgent and creamier notes of vanilla and caramelised pear. The fragrance takes on a honeyed edge, but never loses that flirty, young touch.
If the scent wasn’t indication enough that this perfume is for the young at heart, the bottle certainly is. The bottle is shaped like a bust of Nicki Minaj, complete with the pink haired head as a lid. It is a little weird, wrestling Nicki’s head off the glass bottle trying not to grope her glass bust in the process. Even more alarming is her head, standing alone on your bathroom counter while you apply the fragrance. The result is kind of hilarious and completely outrageous, but it truly captures the entertainingly defiant spirit that we have come to love.
