As women – we can’t deny we do love things that connect us to other women.

Yoga, book clubs, mothers groups and family.

The last one may be negotiable. Well at least it appears that way in The Meryl Streep Movie Club.

I’m not ruining anything by revealing that the three central characters – relatives – Isabel, June, and Kat are summoned home to their family matriarch’s (their aunt  inn on the coast of Maine, in the United States for a shocking announcement. Suddenly the three adult women, are sharing a tiny bedroom–and barely speaking.

There’s multiple points of view in the story, which is written in the third person – which can often make reading a little jarring.

What brings these women together is their surprising and heartfelt discussions of movies such as Out of Africa, The Bridges of Madison County, and Mamma Mia.

Consequently, as some of us may identify, with their post-movie discussions – the three women unexpectedly discover  who they really are and what they truly want want from life.

A great beach read and potentially one for your next book club – or movie club!
