Book Review: Sweet Talk, Julie Garwood

Sweet Talk, is just the kind of fast paced, romantic thriller that readers have come to expect from Julie Garwood.

Protagonist Olivia Mackenzie is a tough talking IRS agent and attorney, who isn’t afraid of stepping on powerful toes if it means putting away the bad guys and taking care of the underdog.

Estranged from her wealthy and selfish family, she shares her life with her 3 best friends Jane, Samantha & Collins. That is, until one fateful day when a prospective employer attacks her during a job interview in a busy restaurant and she finds herself in the middle of an FBI sting gone wrong.

Enter Grayson, dashing, protective, gorgeous Grayson. FBI agent and all round good guy, who Olivia finds herself falling for, despite her best efforts; All the while trying to find enough evidence to put her estranged father in jail, navigating death threats, saving disadvantaged children and donating blood for her sick friend Jane.

With plenty of witty banter and sexual tension, Garwood portrays the relationship between Olivia and Grayson beautifully and even the most romantically challenged reader (me!) will be entertained.

The only weakness in this otherwise thrilling book is that there seems to be only 2 kinds of people in Olivia’s world, those who are totally angelic and those who are completely evil. I found that aspect a little distracting, but otherwise this was a great read and I can’t wait to pick up my next Julie Garwood.

Sweet Talk is a fun book, filled with suspenseful twists and turns, hilarious laugh-out-loud dialogue and a cast of strong and feisty women. If you like female protagonists who do more than shop, then you’ll love this book.
